Karimah Schoenhut

Policy Analyst, Renewable Energy & Wildlife

Karimah Schoenhut joined Defenders in December 2014 as a Conservation Law Fellow.  She became a Policy Analyst for the Renewable Energy program in September 2016. Karimah earned both a Ph.D. in Geology/Environmental Science and a J.D. from the University of Pennsylvania. Her work at Defenders has involved briefing in appellate Endangered Species Act litigation, identifying technical and legal weaknesses in agency decisions, and developing new litigation to address violations under the ESA, Clean Water Act, and the National Environmental Policy Act. Prior to joining Defenders, Karimah worked on Clean Power Plan issues for the Environmental Defense Fund, litigated against environmentally harmful energy infrastructure development for the Delaware Riverkeeper Network, and clerked in the Environmental Protection Agency's Office of General Counsel. She has also worked as a civil engineer, environmental scientist, and adjunct professor.
